Enjoy Favorite Movies and Get Film Insider Perspective at 2nd Annual Edgemere Film Fest

Three beloved movies, special guests from the film industry, red carpet photos, music, refreshments, cocktails, giveaways, and more are coming to Edgemere this fall.

The Edgemere Film Fest returns October 22–24, 2026, with three afternoons of beloved movies, and conversations with special guests from the film industry exploring the enduring power of storytelling. Attendees of the complimentary film festival will also enjoy music, refreshments, cocktails, giveaways, and red-carpet photos.  Free tickets are available to audiences of all ages, but reservations are required.

Once again, the festival at Dallas’ premier senior living community highlights movies that portray older adults as dynamic, complex, and fully human, embracing life’s joys and challenges at every stage — while also honoring classic films that remain as culturally resonant today as they were when they first appeared on the big screen.

“We believe that aging is not an epilogue. It’s a vital and rich chapter worthy of artistic exploration and celebration,” said COO and President of Certus Living Jeff Amann. “The Edgemere Film Fest celebrates aging as a vibrant, relevant, and evolving experience — both on screen and in real life. Among the films featured will be 9 to 5, starring the iconic Dolly Parton, who was an excellent example of how seniors can remain vital and engaged, shaping their communities and the world around them through contributions both large and small.”

Each day of the festival will begin with check-in at 12:30 p.m., followed by a film screening and Q&A from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Guests are then invited to stay for a reception and photo opportunities from 4 to 5 p.m.

Miss Congeniality
Thursday, October 22

The festival opens with the 2000 comedy Miss Congeniality, starring Sandra Bullock, Michael Caine, Benjamin Bratt, and Candice Bergen.

Bullock plays Gracie Hart, a tough, tomboyish FBI agent who must go undercover as a contestant in a national beauty pageant after her department learns that the event may be targeted by an anonymous bomber. With the help of veteran pageant coach Victor Melling, played by Caine, Gracie must master an entirely unfamiliar world while trying to uncover the threat.

Following the screening, audience members will hear from cast members Farah White (Tennessee) and LeeAnne Locken (Nebraska). White and Locken will share their experiences and offer a behind-the-scenes perspective on the making of the film.

9 to 5
Friday, October 23

On Friday, the festival continues with the enduring 1980 comedy 9 to 5, starring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and the universally beloved singer, songwriter, actor, and philanthropist Dolly Parton.

The film follows three working women who dream of getting even with their company’s autocratic, sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical vice president. Their shared frustrations bring them together, and their fantasies of overthrowing their boss begin to move much closer to reality.

More than four decades after its release, 9 to 5 remains funny, empowering, and strikingly relevant. Its memorable performances, workplace satire, and Parton’s unforgettable title song have helped make it a cultural touchstone.

Sean Griffin

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Sean Griffin, an author and professor in the Southern Methodist University Meadows Division of Film and Media Arts. Griffin will discuss the film, its place in popular culture, and the reasons its themes continue to connect with audiences today.

Friday Night Lights
Saturday, October 24

The festival concludes Saturday with the 2004 film Friday Night Lights, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Jay Hernandez, and Derek Luke.

Based on H.G. Bissinger’s acclaimed book, the film follows the Permian High Panthers and the football culture surrounding the team in economically depressed Odessa, Texas. As players, coaches, families, and an entire community pursue a state championship, the story explores ambition, pressure, and identity.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with cast member Brad Leland. A familiar face in film and television, Leland played John Aubrey in the movie and later portrayed Buddy Garrity in the acclaimed Friday Night Lights television series.

Each Q&A will be moderated by James Faust, artistic director of the Dallas International Film Festival, and Jeff Amann, COO and president of Certus Living.
