At Edgemere, giving back is more than a generous act — it is a powerful source of wellness, engagement, and connection. Residents of Dallas’s premier senior living community often say that contributing to the greater good makes them feel more connected, more purposeful, and more energized. Whether they are fundraising for causes close to their hearts, crafting comfort items for children, or supporting neighbors on campus, these shared efforts nurture emotional, social, vocational, and spiritual wellness.
On Edgemere’s elegant Preston Hollow campus, purpose and personal fulfillment are part of the luxury lifestyle, and giving back becomes one of the most rewarding ways residents strengthen their own well-being while uplifting others.
Honoring Causes Close to the Heart
Each year, Edgemere residents rally around several philanthropic traditions, supporting causes that hold deep personal meaning for many families, and engagement remains consistently strong.
Every fall, residents, team members, and families raise money and come out for the city’s big Walk to End Alzheimer’s. And this year, the Longest Day Bridge Tournament brought in more than 120 passionate players and raised over $5,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
Edgemere also held its first Walk for Parkinson’s in 2025, a new partnership with the Dallas Area Parkinson Society. Residents embraced the inaugural event with enthusiasm, walking in solidarity with neighbors and friends while building awareness and support for the Parkinson’s community.
Crafting Comfort for Children
The Edgemere Knit Wits use their crafty skills to provide comfort and support for kids at Children’s Health Hospital’s Pediatric Cardiology unit facing difficult days. In the first half of the year, the talented group spent 1,400 volunteer hours creating:
- 102 baby hats
- 20 crib blankets
- 85 Beads of Courage bags
Supporting Women and Families in Crisis
Edgemere’s exceptional generosity also extends to Genesis Women’s Shelter, a longstanding partner. Residents gather essential supplies for mothers and children seeking safety and stability, including hygiene items, household goods, and other basics.
Edgemere also supports local schools and the Jewish Community Center through back-to-school drives, wellness fairs, and collaborative programming.
A Culture of Collaboration and Community Service
Giving back at Edgemere is not limited to external causes. Residents actively support life on campus through service that builds community, strengthens friendships, and enriches daily engagement.
Each November, residents lead the Veterans Panel, organizing speakers, coordinating with military partners, and shaping an emotional program honoring neighbors with military service. Residents also assist with decorations and preparations for several community-wide events.
For this year’s Edgemere Film Festival, volunteers stuffed marketing bags, popped popcorn for three straight days, and took pride in ensuring the event’s success.
Handy residents also give their time in the woodshop, where they repair dining room chairs, stain benches around the property, and craft trays presented to new residents. Residents throughout the community extend this hospitality by welcoming newcomers to campus, hosting social gatherings, facilitating introductions, and making sure each person feels at home from the moment they arrive.
Giving Back to Those Who Serve the Community
A defining tradition at Edgemere is the annual Holiday Staff Fund, which allows residents to express appreciation for the team members who support their daily lives. While the exact totals remain private, this year’s generosity was truly remarkable. Residents personally hand out checks during the holiday celebration, underscoring the strong relationships and mutual respect between residents and staff.
Another meaningful initiative is the resident-funded scholarship program for team members pursuing college or vocational education.
